PicoStar Melasma Protocol

The PicoStar Melasma Protocol is a doctor-led pigmentation programme designed to help manage melasma, improve uneven skin tone, and support clearer, brighter-looking skin.

Melasma is a common but stubborn pigmentation condition. It often appears as brown or grey-brown patches on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip, nose, or jawline. Because it is influenced by sun exposure, heat, hormones, genetics, and inflammation, it usually needs a structured treatment plan rather than a one-off treatment.

At Riverbanks Clinic, our PicoStar Melasma Protocol combines carefully planned PicoStar laser treatments with medical-grade pigment support to help calm excess pigmentation while protecting the skin barrier.

What is included?

  • Four PicoStar laser treatments for melasma
  • Full-face pigment-focused treatment approach
  • One Alastin A-Luminate® Brightening Serum
  • Clinical guidance on sun protection and pigment control
  • Doctor-led treatment planning at Riverbanks Clinic

How does PicoStar help melasma?

PicoStar uses ultra-short laser pulses to target excess pigment in the skin with precision. Therefore, it can help break down unwanted pigmentation while aiming to minimise unnecessary heat in the surrounding skin.

Because melasma can worsen when the skin becomes inflamed, our protocol is designed to be gentle, progressive, and carefully monitored. As a result, improvements usually develop gradually over a course of treatments rather than immediately after one session.

Who is this treatment suitable for?

This programme may be suitable for patients with:

  • Melasma
  • Hormonal pigmentation
  • Patchy facial pigmentation
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Sun-related pigmentation, where clinically appropriate

A consultation is required before treatment to confirm whether this is the right approach for your skin. In some cases, melasma may need a combination plan that includes skincare, pigment suppressing products, strict SPF use, and maintenance treatments.

Downtime and recovery

Downtime is usually minimal. However, you may experience temporary redness, warmth, mild swelling, or darkening of pigment before it starts to fade. In addition, strict sun protection is essential after treatment, as UV exposure and heat can trigger recurrence.

Important to know

Melasma is a chronic condition and cannot be permanently cured. However, with the right treatment plan, skincare, and long-term maintenance, it can often be significantly improved and better controlled.
